Krishnamoorthy Beej presents Nirgun Sagun, an evening of Bhakti poetry from Kabir and the Varkari Sampradaya interpreted in music and dance. Nirgun Sagun is an experimental dance theatre venture by Kathak exponent, Sanjukta Wagh in collaboration with Hindustani Vocalist, Makarand Deshpande and Karnatic Percussionist, Satish Krishnamoorthy. The evening is in two parts of 40- 45 minutes each with a 12 minute interval. The first half, Bheetar Baahar is an invocation to Nirgun, the formless and non-manifest that Kabir indicates through metaphors, symbols and images of the breath, body and sound, converging and departures. This immersive, improvised performance seeks to inhabit the present moment as Kabir's imagery comes alive in vocabularies of sound and movement created, experienced and forgotten in that very moment. In the second segment Ubha Vitwari, the dark bodied idol of Vitthal is brought to life in various sagun forms and manifestations of and in the bhakta's or poet's imagination and experience. Diverse voices of the Varkari Sampradaya evoking Vitthal as a child, a mother, a lover, a master, a server and finally the all encompassing colour are stitched together in rhythm, melody and dance.
